CASE STUDY

Carroll High School

SCHOOL/ ORGANIZATION Carroll High School
LOCATION Fort Wayne, Indiana
FACILITY SIZE 10,500 sq. ft.
ATHLETES SERVED 100
SPORTS SUPPORTED Multi-Sport

The problem

Carroll High School had outgrown its previous training environment.

The existing space lacked the capacity the program needed, and the equipment had become outdated. As the athletic program grew, the school needed a larger facility that could support more athletes at once while creating more usable open floor space for warm-ups, movement work, and general training.

The project was driven by program growth, school investment, and a broader facility expansion.

The challenge was straightforward: create a larger, more functional training environment that could serve athletes across all sports without sacrificing flow, organization, or coaching visibility.

The objective

Carroll wanted the new facility to accomplish three primary goals:

  • Increase the number of athletes who could train at one time
  • Create more open floor space for warm-ups and movement
  • Build a larger, more efficient facility that could support long-term program growth

The finished space also needed to improve equipment organization and make it easier for coaches to supervise athletes throughout the room.

The design

Stray Dog worked directly with Carroll’s strength staff and administration to develop a facility plan around the school’s budget, timeline, training requirements, equipment needs, and preferred layout.

Because the project was new construction, the team had the opportunity to design the 10,500-square-foot space around how the program wanted to train rather than working around the limitations of an existing room.

The final design centered around 24 Alpha Full Racks, each paired with dedicated platforms and supported by 27 benches.

The rack layout was designed to create more usable training stations while preserving open floor space throughout the facility. That balance gives Carroll the ability to move large groups through strength sessions while still maintaining areas for warm-ups, movement work, and other training needs.

Storage was also incorporated into the equipment plan through 24 PowerBlock carts, helping keep equipment organized and maintaining cleaner training areas around each station.

A 3D visualization was used during the planning process so coaches and administrators could review the layout and understand how the finished facility would function before installation began.

The install

Stray Dog handled installation directly for the Carroll project.

Once the design and equipment plan were finalized, the team coordinated delivery and installation of the Alpha Full Racks, platforms, benches, storage systems, and supporting equipment.

Direct installation helped ensure the finished facility matched the approved layout and allowed the project to move from design to a training-ready space as planned.

The results

The completed facility can now support approximately 100 athletes at one time.

Compared with the previous training space, Carroll gained:

  • More usable training stations
  • Increased athlete capacity
  • Better athlete flow
  • Improved storage and organization
  • Cleaner coaching sightlines
  • More open floor space
  • Greater flexibility for warm-ups and movement work

The result is a larger, more functional performance strength facility built to serve Carroll’s athletes and students across all sports.

The new space gives the strength staff more room to coach, more stations to work with, and more flexibility to manage large groups without sacrificing the quality of the training environment.
