  • 1990-1997

    Matt Purdy founded Equipment Guys Inc. as a manufacturer's rep serving the strength and conditioning market.

  • 1998

    Stray Dog Strength was created to build a single rack that athletes could both squat and bench from — a product that didn't yet exist on the market.

  • 2000

    Worthington Kilbourne High School became our first Ohio high school installation.

  • 2001

    We moved into our first production space — a 900-square-foot garage with no running water and dirt floors.

  • 2003

    Stray Dog completed its first West Coast installations at Eastern Washington and UC Riverside.

  • 2009

    We partnered with a 100-year-old American manufacturer to bring CNC lasers and CAM software to Stray Dog production and eCore flooring to our facility offering.

  • 2010

    Custom banner braces were introduced, making Stray Dog one of the first companies to bring personalized branding to rack systems.

  • 2017

    The ATR was introduced, integrating cable machines into rack posts to eliminate the inefficiency of single-use equipment.

  • 2019-2020

    Zach Purdy and Jake Purdy join the company full time, marking the start of Stray Dog's second generation as a family-owned business.

  • 2024

    A collaboration with Cal Dietz produced the Spring Ankle, Stray Dog's first co-developed sports performance product.
