FACILITY SIZE 3,675 sq. ft.
ATHLETES SERVED 90+
SPORTS SUPPORTED Multi-Sport

The problem

Dublin Jerome High School needed to make better use of the space it already had.

The existing weight room was split across multiple connected areas, which made layout decisions especially important. Without a careful plan, the room could easily become crowded and inefficient.

The school was also working with outdated equipment and did not have enough capacity to support the number of athletes who needed to train at one time.

The project was driven by a desire to give athletes a more capable training environment and create enough usable stations to accommodate a full team.

The objective

Dublin Jerome focused on three priorities:

  • Maximize the number of usable training stations within the existing footprint
  • Add more resistance options throughout the room
  • Increase the overall carrying capacity of the facility

The design also needed to improve flow, storage, coaching visibility, and warm-up space while making the split-room layout feel more connected.

The design

Stray Dog approached the project by building on lessons from a similarly configured facility at Dublin Scioto.

The final design used a mix of Alpha Double Half Racks and Alpha Half Racks to create 23 total rack stations across the available space.

Each rack station was designed to support primary strength work while giving athletes access to additional resistance options close to where they were training.

The equipment plan included:

  • 23 rack stations
  • 27 benches
  • 23 platforms
  • Fixed dumbbell sets at each rack
  • Dedicated ATR storage room
  • Cable training options
  • Slam balls
  • Barbells
  • Additional auxiliary training equipment

The separate ATR room expanded the number of resistance profiles available without overcrowding the primary lifting areas.

A 3D facility design was used during the planning process so the school could review equipment placement, traffic flow, and use of each room before installation.

The install

Stray Dog handled installation for the Dublin Jerome project.

Because the facility was divided into multiple spaces, installation followed the approved layout closely to make sure rack placement, platforms, storage, dumbbells, and auxiliary equipment worked together without creating unnecessary congestion.

The results

Dublin Jerome finished the project with a higher-capacity strength facility designed to support more athletes and more training options within the same building footprint.

The new layout provides:

  • 23 usable rack stations
  • Better room flow
  • Improved storage
  • Cleaner coaching sightlines
  • More warm-up space
  • Greater training capacity
  • More resistance options throughout the facility

The facility can now support 90+ athletes at one time, giving the school the capacity to train full teams more efficiently.

The addition of fixed dumbbell sets at each rack, a dedicated ATR cable room, slam balls, barbells, and other training tools also gives athletes access to a wider range of resistance profiles without forcing them to move constantly between areas.
